Mr. Bruce Edward Humfrey

The Humfrey family grieves the loss of Bruce Edward Humfrey, who passed away peacefully at the age of 74 on December 24, 2025, after a short but fierce battle with cancer. Bruce is survived by his wife Norma Humfrey and his children and grandchildren: Clint and Christel Humfrey of High River, AB (Hunter, Knox and Winston), Ginger Humfrey of High River, AB, Clay and Amanda Humfrey of Mazeppa, AB (Ryley, Paris and Cash), and Angel and Brad Toews of Watrous, SK (Bronc, Sunshine, Honey, and Spur). He is also survived by his sisters Darlene (Harold Schloeder), Dorothy (Gerry Bietz), and Beverley (Michael Whittle) and numerous nieces and nephews. Bruce was predeceased by his parents, Bruce Sr. and Kay Humfrey, his uncle, Edward Humfrey, and his sister, Patricia Dougherty. Bruce was born on April 12, 1951 to Kay and Bruce Sr. He was raised on the family farm at Mazeppa, Alberta as the only son among four sisters. They had the unique privilege of living across the road from their grandad and his “IE Humfrey & Sons General Store and Post Office.” They got to help him to do ‘sums’ and learned business there. Bruce even traded gopher tails for candy. His grandad needed help from his young grandson with the mail delivery. The train wouldn’t stop, but slowed enough for Bruce to unhook the mailbag from the side of the train and hang the outgoing mailbag on the fly. Bruce attended school at Gladys Ridge and High River. During that time he was a member of Gladys 4-H Beef Club and enjoyed curling. He grew up riding horses and was born to be a farmer. Bruce worked with his father and Uncle Ed from a young age until he was able to join the partnership as a young adult. Bruce studied Ag Mechanics at Olds College where he had an absolute blast with like-minded farm boys. He met his future wife Norma Evenson of Frontier, SK at college and married her on May 6, 1972. Bruce and Norma embraced farm life together and enjoyed the community activities of Gladys Ridge, Blackie, High River and Mazeppa. The farming partnership continues today with son, Clay and grandson Ryley. Bruce developed various interests along the way, including playing guitar, getting his pilot’s license, boating at Little Bow with the Blackie gang, and later becoming a winter resident of Arizona. He read widely and his knowledge of history informed his views on life, agriculture and politics. Bruce was always good with numbers and had a quick mental calculator. He loved to find a deal. He enjoyed visits from neighbors and friends who visited him at “the office.” In later years he was an eager rodeo sponsor for his grandchildren and looked forward to hearing the latest “rodeo report” from them. Although he was a lifelong farmer, cattleman, and entrepreneur, most importantly Bruce leaves behind a crop of children and a herd of grandchildren. The Humfrey family wishes to thank the staff of Rockyview and High River Hospitals, and especially the Arthur Child Cancer Centre and Foothills Country Hospice for their care for Bruce during his late illness. Funeral to take place on Friday, January 2, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at the High River Baptist Church.
