Ms. Deborah May Malmberg

Deborah May Malmberg was the fourth sibling born to Chet and Waunita Scott May 6th, 1953 in Loon Lake Saskatchewan. With her siblings in tow, they packed up and moved to High River in 1955 where Deb set her roots. As a young girl she attended Senator Riley and High River High School . She stayed busy babysitting, tending to her siblings and working at the Hitchin' Post. At the age of 19 she met Ken Malmberg and soon started a family of her own. First came Shane, and then Shawna. She loved taking care of her family and the farm. Her interest in gardening started then and her time spent with Grandma Lucy, her sister Shannon and best friend Dianne Howe in the Herronton area shaped her years with her young family. In 1983 her third child Scott made an appearance and Deb was proud and delighted as her family made traditions of attending annual Malmberg and Daub family functions. She frequented all the Blackie outings, played slow pitch, golfed and preformed with the Blackie Gladys Players for years. In 1990 Deb returned to High River where she eventually moved next door to the house she grew up in. It was hers, and she took pride in her home, beautiful yard and garden. Hosting there was one of her favourite things. She worked very hard and soon landed herself a job at Arnold and Arnold, where she stayed for 25 years and retired from in 2023. Her children meant the world to her. Early morning hockey, camping in the park, and late night jam sessions were something she proudly put up with. Deb’s love of family grew as grandbabies were added to the mix. Now babysitting, school plays and the next generations sporting events became part of her routine. Outside of her immediate family, Deb held so much love for her siblings and extended family. She treasured her time spent at Norms cabin every summer, going on road trips, and recently made it a tradition to visit Victoria and Mexico annually with Val and David. She loved to travel. While it was hard for Deb to completely retire, she filled her time making memories with those she loved the most. Deb was always active in her community. Whether you met her at hockey, bowling, working along side her, volunteering with her or you just happened to have a chat at church or the grocery store line, she quickly became a friend and treasured these relationships dearly. Deb is survived by her siblings Val Grills, Linda Hanna, Norm Scott and Larry Scott. Her children Shane Malmberg, Shawna Dawe and Scott Malmberg. Grand kids Harrison and Hailey Dawe, and Marshall and Otto Malmberg. She was pre-deceased by her parents Chet and Waunita, and her treasured step father “Dad” Harry Jones. Her sisters Cheryl Scott and Shannon Stewart, half brother Terry Scott and brother-in-laws Richard Grills and Terrence Hanna. Most recently her beloved grand daughter Emerson Malmberg. Deb wasted no time, and filled her days volunteering at Food for Thought and making shoe boxes at Southgate Alliance church weekly. She loved baking, swimming, meeting friends for lunch, playing cards, and helping others however she could. Deb’s celebration of life will be held on March 28th at 2:00 p.m. at the Highwood Memorial Centre in High River. Please join us to honour her life and celebrate the blessing she was to us all.
