Mrs. Earla Yvonne Sapinsky

With love and gratitude for a life devoted to caring for others, we share the news of Earla Yvonne Sapinsky’s peaceful passing on January 31, 2026, in High River, Alberta, at the perfect age of 77. Earla was born on April 25, 1948, in Calgary, Alberta, and grew up in Calgary, Hussar, Gladys Ridge, and Blackie areas. She spent most of her life in High River, where she built a home, raised her family, and became a familiar and caring presence in the community she loved so deeply. She will be profoundly missed by her husband, Walter, and her four children: Michelle (Darrel), Chantelle, Suzanne (Greg), and Steven (Loren). Her greatest joy was her family, especially her eight grandchildren: Elisabeth “Lisa” (Matt), Bret (Tiare), Jacqui (Toro), Tanner (Sierra), Hunter, Kingston, Carter, and Taylor, and her three treasured great-grandchildren: Avah, Jaxson, and Lincoln. She is also lovingly remembered by her four “little” brothers: Jim, Bob (Cathy), Kim (Lavonda), and Brock (Patricia), along with extended family, former colleagues, and many friends whose lives were better for knowing her. Earla was predeceased by her parents, John and Ella Justinick. In 1976, Earla answered a calling to serve others and enrolled in nursing school, beginning a career defined by skill, dedication, and compassion. She spent most of her nursing career at High River Hospital, where she touched countless lives. While many remember her fondly from her time in maternity, where patients often felt especially cared for, emergency nursing was where Earla truly felt at home. She thrived in the fast pace and intensity of emergency care, remaining calm, capable, and deeply attentive in even the most critical moments. Many in the community shared stories of how safe and reassured they felt in her presence, and how clear it was that she genuinely loved her work. To her colleagues, Earla was a mentor and a steady presence. When nurses felt unsure or overwhelmed, they often found themselves thinking, “What would Earla do?” Even in the busiest and most stressful moments, she remained composed and continued to offer patience, grace, and kindness to every patient who came through the doors. Earla was blessed with many close and treasured friendships. She shared countless happy hours with her friends in her cross-stitch group The Thrilling Threaders, and with her sewing group, where time was spent creating, visiting, laughing, and sharing life together. These friendships brought her great joy and were a cherished part of her life. Earla’s life was also guided by a deep and sincere faith. She believed wholeheartedly in the love of God—not as a set of rules or regulations, but as a source of kindness and grace. She lived her faith quietly and authentically, reflecting that love in how she treated others each day. Through her generosity and care for those around her, Earla showed what she believed God’s love looked like in action. Earla was a devoted wife, a wonderful mom, a proud grandmother and great-grandmother, a beloved sister, a cherished friend, and an exceptional nurse. She was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by all who knew her. She loved beauty in all its forms—especially a little sparkle—and brought that same brightness and joy into the lives of those around her. Her strength, warmth, and love live on in the many lives she touched, and in the hearts of those who loved her most. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, February 27th at 1:00 p.m. at the High River Baptist Church. In keeping with Earla’s love of the beautiful things in life, flowers are welcome.
