Mrs. Gloria Violet Norrie

Gloria Norrie (nee Kemle) passed away peacefully on August 28, 2024 at the High River Hospital where she resided in long term care for the last two and a half years. She was 86 at her time of passing. She is survived by her children Cyril (Bev), Glenn (Jill) and Brenda. Gloria will be missed by her beloved grandchildren, Wendy (Brad), Travis (Candice), Stephanie, Kim (Justin), Tyler (Nalissa), Justin (Alexa), Holly (Colton) and great-grandchildren Gracie, Halle, Jordana, Harper, McKinzlee, Miaya and Kaysen. Gloria was predeceased by her loving husband of 48 years Gordon (2004); her sister Lorraine (1953); brother Karl (1962); and parents Frederick (1971) and Pauline (1985). She leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews. Gordon, Gloria and family moved to High River in 1972 and operated Gordon Norrie General Trucking until they retired in 1994. Gloria did the office work for the business. They enjoyed camping near and far every chance they could get. Camping in George Lane Park in High River was especially fun as the grandchildren would come to join in and often stay overnight. They could be found at most Highland Games and also travelled to Kimberley for the Scottish tattoo, enjoying every minute of the bagpipes. Especially the massed bands. Their motorhome was also used to load up everyone and head to the Hitchin' Post for ice cream after a family supper. Gordon and Gloria enjoyed old time dancing at the High River Legion and wherever else they could go. Their biggest enjoyment was time spent with their grandchildren. After Gordon's passing Gloria continued to go to the legion for coffee and enjoyed bowling, dancing and playing mahjong. She enjoyed baking and cooking a turkey dinner, having the family over on the holidays. A highlight for Gloria was her trip to Italy and the UK with Glenn, Jill and family. She enjoyed the Norrie reunions and bus tours to the US. Gloria had a love for cats and dogs (especially German Shepherds) and enjoyed all of our families' pets. She was proud of the fact she was the only resident in long term care here to have a weekly visit from a cat (Lenny). He loved to lay beside her in bed and watch TV or sleep. A come and go Celebration of Gloria’s Life will be held at Lyle Reeves Funerals Atrium on Saturday, September 7, 2024 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. In lieu of flowers; if desired a donation in Gloria's name to Heaven Can Wait Animal Rescue in High River – www.heavencanwait.ca - would be meaningful to our family.
