Mr. Richard Sherman Ament

Richard Ament of High River, Alberta passed away at the High River Hospital on March 2, 2024 at the age of 67 years. Rick is survived by his wife Becky; daughter Chelsey (Joe); sons Justin (Courteney); and Riley; grandchildren Harlow, Grayson, Garrett, Peyton, Hudson, Lyric, and Roxton. He is also survived by sisters Dawna Liske, Judy Laurence and Bev Hommy, brother Ralph (Julie); mother-in-law Ardis Branch; brothers-in-law Bruce and Barton (Donna) Branch, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Ralph and Ida Ament, sister Faye Johnston; brothers-in-law Larry Johnston, and Dan Hommy; nephews Dwayne Johnston, Dean Denschikoff, Christopher Denschikoff; father-in-law Howard Branch; and Susan Ament, mother of Justin and Chelsey. Rick was born in Edmonton, Alberta the youngest of six children. His family was a musical one; travelling around northern Alberta as the Ament Family Orchestra, playing in numerous dancehalls throughout the area. Music was a thread that would run through Ricks life. At the age of 17, he left home and became a road musician. He soon joined Brian Sklar and the Prairie Fire Band and spent the next 13 years travelling throughout North America, England and Switzerland. When he grew weary of life on the road, he settled in High River. He wasn’t ready to give up music though, and continued to play in the local area, first in the house band at the River Roadhouse and then travelling around the local area with TC and Company. In his final years, he returned to occasionally playing music with family once again, this time with son Justin. Prior to his death, Rick worked with Telus Agriculture and SAVS. His days were spent driving around southern Alberta. On the road again. Rick and Becky were married in August 1991. They lived in the High River area all of their married life raising their children and building a life together. They enjoyed travel and made precious memories with trips to Mexico, Austin and San Antonio. Last year they enjoyed a Caribbean cruise with friends. Rick had said he had always wanted to see that blue Caribbean Sea and that white sand. We are glad he got to do that. Offstage Rick was a quiet man. He loved horses and rodeo. But he loved his family the most. He was so proud of his kids and all of their accomplishments. He loved watching and hearing about all his grandchildren’s activities. We are so grateful his last days were spent surrounded by those who loved him. A Celebration of Rick's life will be held early this summer.
