Mrs. Mary Anne Rehak Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Mrs. Mary Rehak of High River, Alberta passed away quietly at the High River Hospital Long Term Care on July 14, 2022, at the age of 94 years. Mary is survived by her four children Robert (Lillian) Rehak, Daniel (Patricia) Rehak, Maria (Richard) Marini, and Peter (Susan) Rehak; six grandchildren; Michael Marini (Jan), Elizabeth Marini (Adam), Scott (Jessica) Rehak, Lee (Hannah) Rehak, Jaylin and Keenan Rehak; and her two great-grandchildren Harriet and Joseph Rehak. She is also survived by her brother Andy (Lesia) Minarik, sisters-in-law Bernice and Anna Minarik, as well as many extended family members. Mary was predeceased by her husband of 69 years Daniel Rehak, as well as her brothers Joseph, Tony, and Mervin Minarik. Mary was born in Dulov, Czechoslovakia to Maria and Leonard Minarik. They immigarated to Canada in 1938 and settled in Rembrandt, Manitoba. It took incredible hard work, ingenuity, and perseverance to farm with a large family in tough times, but they embraced their new home. Mary left home to work in Winnipeg in her late teen years. The money she earned went to help her parents and for her brothers’ educations. She had a strong hand in their success and many others. Toronto became her home where she married Daniel in 1951 and they raised a family with a strong work ethic. Over many summers she would take her children by train back to Manitoba to visit and help on the family farm. Mary was an incredibly resourceful cook and could sew anything. Her children will forever remember her many Slovak recipes such as “buchty”, “trubochki”, and “kolache”. “Babka” could bake those effortlessly without measuring cups! Failing health moved Mary west to be with some of her family. They were happy to see her take part in all the activities at Seasons Retirement Home where she made new friends and was able to spend more time with her family. She will be missed by all that knew her because of her attitude, talents, and love. Her strong faith and her family were her focus in life. In memory of Mary, a donation to the High River District Health Care Foundation would be appreciated.
