November 26, 1962 - March 2, 2015
We announce with heavy hearts the sudden and unexpected passing of our dear friend, Roger Leslie Hagell at the age of 52. Roger was the only child of his predeceased parents, Norman L. & Joanne M. Hagell (nee: Bradshaw). Roger was born in Toronto and grew up in Ontario before joining the Royal Canadian Air Force at the age of seventeen. Roger served in the RCAF for several years working in remote locations across Canada including the vast and majestic Canadian Arctic. His love for animals lead him to work with the City of Grande Prairie, Animal Control Section of Enforcement Services where he became a Constable. He also joined the Commissionaires where he proudly worked for years. Roger’s expertise as an IT Specialist led him to a career with the Grande Prairie Public School District, Mullen Trucking and then as an independent consultant most recently working with the oil and gas industry. Roger had an easy going personality and loved to laugh. He moved to the Saddlebrook Temporary Community in the summer of 2013 and became an active member of that community. Roger could be counted on to boost spirits in any one of the restaurants or coffee shop at Saddlebrook and was instrumental in spearheading meetings and lending a hand when needed. Roger had a wide circle of friends including many within High River and Calgary. He was always willing to help anyone and would not hesitate to help out a friend when needed. Roger’s best friend and constant companion Zeus, a spunky and soulful Jack Russell Terrier, will miss him terribly. Roger and Zeus went everywhere together and could often be recognized as a pair around High River. When Roger acquired Zeus, he knew he had truly found a friend. The two were at each other’s sides constantly and Zeus was with Roger until the end. A Celebration of Roger's Life will be held on Friday, March 27th at 1:00 p.m. at the High River Full Gospel Tabernacle (1802 9th Ave. SE, High River, AB). We welcome all attendants to join in storytelling, picture and memory sharing at that time. If desired, in lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to Heaven Can Wait Animal Rescue Foundation, Box 6131, Station Main, High River, T1V 1P7.
