February 3, 1935 - August 28, 2015
Shirley Hansen passed away peacefully at the High River Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Shirley was born in Libau, Manitoba during the depression, where she lived with her four siblings. She moved to Alberta as a young woman where she was married and had three children. She worked in Calgary primarily in the oil patch industry. Shirley was never judgemental or prejudiced. She found the good in all people and regaled in their prosperity. Shirley held a private pilot's license. She delighted in traveling the world experiencing sites and cultures that fuelled her innate sense of adventure and generosity. As a diamond club member in Las Vegas, she claims to have paid for many of the palm trees that adorn the casinos along the strip. A beautiful proud and independent woman, she drove a Mercedes-Benz but never thought better of herself than of others. With sincerity and grace she never had expectations of others, only gratitude for kindness shown. Shirley had a life-long passion for fashion, design and sewing. She basked in the prosperity of others and always gave from the heart. She will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have been touched by her generosity kindness and spirit. Her honesty and faith will be well heeded by God as she embarks on this final journey. Choose to carry the gifts she has bestowed upon each of us, with love for all. Celebrate in the knowledge that we are better people, having had Shirley in our lives. Shirley is predeceased by her mother Jean, her brother Alex, her sisters Sharon and Carol. She is survived by her sister Helen, her sons Gary and Jonjo; daughter Shelley; her grandchildren Jennie, Ashley, Mitchell and Spencer, and one great grand-daughter Olivia. A Memorial was held on Saturday, September 5, 2015 at Lyle Reeves Funerals (115 - 8th Avenue S.E., High River, AB) To send condolences and view Shirley’s Tribute Page please visit www.lylereeves.com.
