Mr. David Anthony Ewanishin

It's with great sadness we announce the death of David Anthony Ewanishin. He is survived by his parents Tony and Sandra Ewanishin, his brother and sister-in-law Mark Ewanishin and Sandra Jensen and his niece Thyme and his nephews Hayden, Beckett and Felix. David was a one of a kind son, brother, uncle and co-worker. Dave grew up in High River, Alberta and graduated from Senator Riley High School in 1991. He was a great athlete and played multiple sports growing up, but his absolute favourite thing was the game of hockey. He grew up playing it, watching it, debating it, and was a loyal fan of the Calgary Flames and Team Canada. He went on to SAIT to achieve a Chemical Laboratory Technology Diploma in 1995 And a B.Sc. in Environmental Sciences from Royal Roads University in 2005. Dave was exceptionally proud of his work at Shell Canada and the relationships he had there. The technical nature of his work made it hard for us laypeople to understand, but his enthusiasm was always palpable! His work took him all around the world, and he was called on when there were problems at customer sites or manufacturing locations, he loved figuring out difficult problems. He was very good at his job and his coworkers loved him, as he did them. He was an important cog in the machine that is Shell, and will be greatly missed. He was also a rocker who loved heavy metal music and was a bassist in his band “Buzzard” back in the early years. He was proud of the band and his contribution to it. There were many zany hijinks and madcap misadventures as they toured around Alberta. Recently a good day for Dave was a round of golf followed an evening out with his buddies at one of the places he was a regular. Dave had a great and often 'on the line' sense of humour, people that knew him know what I mean. He was good at staying on the right side of the line as he kept his employment intact for 24 years. He was very proud of his niece and nephews and would go to cheer them on at ringette and hockey, as well as talking music trends and recently golfing with them. While Dave was excited to see them grow up as the discussions went from Star Wars to SpaceX, his greatest disappointment was that they all grew up Oilers fans, but both sides had a healthy animosity toward each other. He had an ample supply of 'pro tips’ for all of them from a time when hockey sticks were made of wood and phones were for calling people. The ’tips’ were aged but there was humour, wisdom and love in all of them. He loved just talking to them, debating music, movies, tv shows. He was convinced that South Park was the greatest show of his generation. No matter the debate, he knew he was right. Dave had great friends everywhere he went, he had an ability to connect with people on many levels, he loved conversation. He was a great at it. He knew a lot of stuff about a lot of stuff. Dave was a good neighbour and was involved with his condo board. He always helped people when they needed it. Please join us at Dave’s celebration of life on Saturday, October 8th at 1:00 p.m. at the Heritage Inn in High River. We encourage you to wear your favourite jersey or band shirt, or whatever as Dave didn’t care about such formalities. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to Alberta Adolescent Recovery Centre or the Calgary Flames Sport Bank.
