Mr. Scott Alexander Beaton

It is with sorrow that we mark the passing of Scott Beaton, loving father to Jennifer, devoted son to Fay, and beloved Papa of Lexi and Katelyn. Scotty was predeceased by his father Alex and by his sister Heather. He is survived by his mother Fay, daughter Jennifer Beaton (Patrick Naylor), granddaughters Lexi and Katelyn Naylor, and siblings, Shawn (Tina), Leslie (David Hedley), and Cameron (Betty). With a passion for anything with an engine - particularly if it was loud - from an early age, Scott loved to tinker with machines and take things apart to see what made them work. He loved to drive, ride, fly - you name it. The challenge of going just a little faster, further, and higher every time never lost its luster for Scott. We could see the evidence in his preoccupations: motorcycles, boats, trucks, cars, snowmobiles - and especially balloons. He was instrumental in bringing Hot Air Balloons to High River for the 1982 Canadian Hot Air Balloon Championships and the in the later years the Heritage International Balloon Festival. He piloted his own balloon, and over the years acted in many capacities in the annual championships. In many ways, Scott was larger than life. Tall and broad-shouldered, he was a big-hearted, gregarious man who loved life and cherished his friends. He was always on hand to pull someone out of a ditch or fix a flat. Despite the physical limitations he suffered in later years, he never stopped helping others. He had a wide circle of friends, encompassing Nascar enthusiasts, Thirsty Thursday buddies, and his balloon students and colleagues. Most of all, Scott delighted in being Papa to Lexi and Katelyn, and always had stories to share about their precociousness. In him they found a willing playmate; he was putty in their small hands. Rest in peace, Scotty; may your skies always be clear and blue, with just enough wind to keep you moving. Scott’s service will be at the headquarters for the Heritage International Balloon Festival. Ride your motorcycle or drive your classic car if you have one - Scotty would have loved that. It will be held June 22nd at 3 p.m., at the Heritage Inn in High River, AB.
